Digital nomad visas hold a lot of potential. Still, critics say they are too difficult to obtain, too expensive, immediately uncomfortable, and even discourage millions of users from often applying. If your monthly income is less than $2,000, you can apply for three visas for digital nomads.
As more countries loosen stringent immigration laws and shatter taboos surrounding remote labor, these visas are growing in popularity. Even if this is encouraging, Digital nomads looking to temporarily emigrate abroad, are finding it extremely difficult to meet the tight financial standards established by the authorities. Of course, this generalization has a few exceptions.
Latvia
Region: Europe
Money requirement: $1677.88 per Month
Duration: two years
Digital Nomad Visa was introduced last year in Latvia, one of Europe’s lesser-known and possibly most underappreciated nations. Following the publication of their own, Spain, Italy, and Greece all got thousands of applications. On the other hand, announcements by the Baltic states, though suggestive, went largely unnoticed.
A former Soviet republic, Latvia has a long history of socialism and is an important port on the Baltic coast. A stroll through Riga will enchant you with its stylish Art Nouveau architecture, dotted with ghoulish Soviet-era apartments, tall church towers, rows of guild houses, and medieval landmarks.
Outside the capital, destinations such as Jurmala, a fast-growing resort town with a vast crescent-shaped sandy beach, and Daugavpils, named after a nearby fortress built in the 19th century, are worth exploring. There are other lands. Incredible history aside, it’s safe to say that you won’t find a DNV this cheap in Europe.
To qualify, Americans must meet a few simple criteria.
I do not own EU/EEA/Switzerland at the same time. They already have freedom of movement in this situation. Work for a business that is legally incorporated in one of the OECD’s member nations, such as the US, Canada, or Mexico. It will make at least 2.5 times the Latvian minimum salary.
For your information, Latvians earn an average of €620 per Month. This means that Americans only need $1677.88 to meet immigration requirements. Of course, with this low economic threshold, living costs are much less burdensome than in the United States. For example, consumer prices in Riga, including rent, are 64.8% cheaper than in US cities.
Benefits of living in Latvia
- The application fee for your DNV is lower than that of others in the EU.
- Your entry to Latvia and the other 27 nations that make up the borderless Schengen zone is year-round with a Latvian resident card.
- Latvia is a well-established hub for teleworkers, ranking among the top 20 in the European Digital Economy and Society Index.
- Latvia is the safest countries.
Cape Verde
Region: South Africa
Money Required: $1622.53

Cape Verde, an island country off the coast of West Africa, is ideal for those who enjoy the sun, sand, and culture. Land in Sal, Maio, or Boa Vista, and you’ll be greeted by breathtaking views of pristine white sand beaches surrounded by colorful villages and luxury resorts.

In addition, remnants of other islands, such as Santo He An Tao and San He Nicolau, have rugged coastlines, wild jungles, and majestic peaks.
As you may have noticed, Cape Verde offers something for everyone, and travelers come to the archipelago for its laid-back atmosphere, friendliness of the inhabitants, and liberal visa requirements. Colombia
Continent: South America
Financial Requirement: $684 per Month
Length of Stay: 2 years
Colombia recently made significant progress in modernizing its immigration policy after adopting the most applicable DNV in South America.
All digital nomads with no criminal record, an income of $684 or more, and working as entrepreneurs or employees of companies outside Colombia are eligible for this visa route. That’s it.
As a leisure travel destination, Colombia has a huge tourism offer beyond the famous Bogota-Medellín-Cartagena triad that globetrotters often ignore. From dense tropical jungles to cobbled colonial towns to picturesque Caribbean islands still marred by overdevelopment, there’s a lot on your to-do list here.
Benefits of being a digital nomad in Colombia:
- Due to Colombia’s low economic threshold and cheaper cost of living than the US, the vast majority of nomads are eligible to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa.
- You can practice and perfect your Spanish skills. But can you even know Medellin’s native Paisa long enough?
- Whether you have entered the country as a tourist or as a DNV holder, extending your visa is not difficult.
- Its biodiversity is unprecedented.
You can cross the Amazon in a week and head to Colombia’s most remote city. Meanwhile, you can relax on a Caribbean beach or enjoy a refreshing bowl of acai at half the price in Tulum.
Conclusion
These other countries do not offer a visa for digital nomads, but they do permit you to stay longer than the standard three-month period while a tourist in those countries. For example, Georgia or Albania, where an American nomad can move for a year without restrictions, and the United Kingdom, where Foreigners will be issued an entry stamp valid for six months.
